There are three techniques used in cognitive behavioural therapy to help treat patients.

The first techniques require the patients to touch or exposed to the objects that trigger the symptoms. The second technique is to ask the patients not to initiate a stereotyped response after being exposed to the cause of the symptoms. And the third is to require the patients to reasonably examine the cause of the assumptions or the triggering cause of OCD. Then the therapist will assist them to understand the faulty reason in order for them to logically appreciate the cause. Medication for every OCD patients should also be expected, with the proper dosage that they receive for a period of three to four weeks, they can take advantage of the benefits after the period of treatment.

Education also plays a vital role in OCD patients during the entire treatment period. They should learn as much as they can about the disorder and to overcome it. Regular meetings with the professional psychologist, reading and talking to other OCD patients can help alleviate the symptoms that will furtherly results in the total elimination of the disorder. Additionally, family members also provide a very important role to help the OCD patients to manage the disorder they endure by showing some support to the patients. Offering some compliments to the patients is a great comfort that lasts up to the inner part of their consciousness and thus helps them relieved from dreadful symptoms. In the events that, if the patient has fully recovered from OCD, it is very advisable to have them a monthly check-up to the therapist to avoid the relapses of the symptoms before they can fully be discharged from medications. And importantly, a patient should discuss to the psychologist even minor relapses to avoid further setbacks.
